YO – Hatha Yoga
Hatha Yoga is the most popular westernized traditional yoga and can be taken as deeply as desired by the individual. Hatha yoga is designed to balance mind and body via physical postures, known as “asanas”, breathing techniques, and the calming of the mind through relaxation and meditation. Asanas teach poise, balance and strength to improve the body’s physical health and clear the mind.
This class is for students who are looking for a traditional yoga style that focuses on proper alignment, breath connection and focus with mindfulness. The basic yoga postures are combined with regulated breath and performed in a systematic and accessible manner.
YO – Healthy Back Hatha – gentle
Mondays 9:30 am
These classes offer healing through yoga poses that strengthen the back and core. Simple yoga poses can be practiced by anyone (no yoga experience required) to promote spine health, strength, and flexibility. Healthy Back Hatha is designed to achieve strength, flexibility, and relaxation to build a strong and comfortable back with good posture.
YO – Gentle Hatha Yoga
This Hatha Yoga is designed for those needing more support, gentle transitions, modifications and mindfulness of limitations. Ideal for beginners and the young at heart. Gentle Hatha class increases strength, flexibility and balance.
YO – Yin Yoga
Yin yoga is a quieter, introspective meditative practice, which consists of floor based poses held for a longer duration. Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues in order to stretch and rehabilitate them. Connective tissue slowly shortens and contracts with ageing, from injuries or neglect, and this is turn affects our joints. We explore long deep stretching to enhance flexibility and joint mobility while encouraging healing and realigning the body’s connective tissues to create spaciousness and stillness in the mind.
YO – Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra or “yogic sleep” is a sleep-like state. Yoga Nidra is not sleeping at all but a form of deep relaxation where you go past the “dreaming state” into “deep sleep”, yet remain awake, fully conscious. It is practiced lying in shavasana (peaceful pose), and guided by the instructor’s voice, you identify sensations throughout your body and focus on your breath, while remaining in a state of relaxed awareness so that you may release deeply held tensions in the body and unwind the nervous system. The practice of Yoga Nidra relaxation has been found to reduce tension and anxiety. In Yoga Nidra, you leave the Waking state, go through the Dreaming state, and into the Deep Sleep state, yet remain fully awake.
Enrollment Yoga Series
Enrollments are offered as a set series with a beginning and ending date, normally as an 8 or 12 week series and are separate from the OMYO program.
Chakra Hatha Yoga
Chakras (“spinning wheels”) communicate through your physical and emotional bodies. In this Enrollment Series we explore the seven primary chakras through meditation, asanas (poses), movement and sound for balanced awareness.
Kundalini yoga is a powerful ancient tradition which combines active postures (asana), breathing techniques (pranayam), sets of exercises (kriya) and sacred sounds (mantras) to quickly bring awareness of self and a connection to the Infinite. Unite (and occasionally challenge) your body, mind & spirit through this energetic and uplifting form of yoga. Come and work at your own pace always listening in and respecting your limitations.
Therapeutic yoga is a blend of restorative and gentle yoga, and is often infused with breath-work, meditation and ‘hands-on healing’ techniques. It is an excellent choice for those who seek a gentle personalized style of yoga to feel the therapeutic effects of bringing balance into the body, and to experience the stress reducing effects. Each pose is gentle and can be adapted to a fully supported state. The practice encourages the attitude of acceptance and activates our body’s self-healing abilities –“in its place of comfort is where the healing begins.” In restorative yoga, supported poses are held for a rather long time and are in general more of ‘passive’nature, while the gentle style in ‘therapeutic yoga’ still requires small ‘active’ movements.
