Insights: The Art of Kindness

Acts of kindness have always and will always fill the world with love. A smile can change the day just as an outburst of anger can change the day. We can move from feeling anxious to feeling safe and connected. The choice is yours….smile

This week’s Insight is Loving Kindness – Acting from Heart.

“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched – they must be felt with the heart.” Helen Keller

We’ve all had experiences where we believed we were acting from the heart with pure intention only to discover later there was a lesson wrapped up in that experience.

Loving Kindness is the act of giving and receiving without expectation, attachment, obligation, or strings attached. It is the art of clean giving and receiving, each balancing the other.

Here are a few examples of how you will know if you are giving/receiving cleanly/uncleanly. Ever have an expectation to be invited for dinner after you hosted a dinner yourself? You’ll know you did if you were annoyed, disappointed, or started talking about them behind their backs when the invite didn’t come. An expectation will lead to disappointment and could so easily be avoided with compassionate clear communication.

Have you ever asked a loved one a question only to find you were disappointed because they didn’t give you the reply you wanted? This is very common and shows we have an attachment to a desired outcome. What would it be like to ask and allow any reply?

We can see acting from the heart comes with lessons of love, compassion and understanding. Of utmost importance is taking care of our self, not just physically, but emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

Would you be surprised to hear most of us find it easier to give than to receive? We are nurturers by nature and usually put ourselves last on the list, even though we know better.

Why then do we continue to put self-care last?

And what can we do differently to balance things out?

The present moment will always bring you to a heart centered place of joy. Practice forgiveness and gratitude. Learn from your experiences. Change the way you act the next time. Never stop caring and keep giving from the heart. Be kind to yourself. Be kind to others. Be Kind.

Receive support in transforming worn out patterns this week at drop-in meditation classes. We all have some limiting beliefs we can transform, however small or large they may be. Come feel the support and discover how easy it is to give and receive from the heart when you are surrounded by compassionate witnesses.
