Insights: What Prevents Forgiveness

Forgiveness is healing the past in the present moment.  Forgiveness doesn’t happen quickly.  It may take a lifetime.  There are times when things happen that linger and take longer to transform.   A whole bunch of feelings and thoughts arise that need to be sorted out along the way.  One of those feelings is anger.

Anger can be a positive emotion when used in an appropriate way.  Anger can be the energizing push we need to make changes in our life.  For example, if something isn’t working and despite repeated attempts to be supportive in making it work,  you start experience frustration and irritation.  If you do not process these emotions in a safe way they will build up and explode later on.

As a peaceful spirit you now find yourself in conflict with your core values. How can you be angry and loud when your main vibration is peaceful and kind? It possible to be kind and angry…

This speaks to one of the most valued ways of transforming emotions such as anger, because anger keeps us stuck in the story and makes forgiving very difficult as our thoughts keep us going around and around.

We have a range of emotions we are here to experience and hanging onto them because we want to be ‘good’ or ‘spiritual’ is actually preventing us from growing. YIKES!

Forgiveness comes when we are connected to our emotions and give them permission to be felt and expressed in a save and appropriate way.  Hanging on or stuffing the down only causes more suffering.  Just remember a time when you ‘held your tongue’ because it seemed like it was the right thing to do only to find yourself ruminating for days, months even years….

But there is hope in knowing we can get through times like this when we share space with others who are compassionate witnesses.

Join me this Sunday at 11 am and Monday 7:30 pm for gentle, inspiring guided meditations to support you in releasing the old, forgiving and creating the freedom of a lighter future.
