Every year it seems the holidays and Christmas arrive faster than expected. It’s as if a switch is flicked and you’re in the midst of decorating, baking, shopping, and socializing. If you have kids or a specific gift you want to give, then you need to be on the hunt early or risk feeling like you let someone down.
There’s an urgency to get things done, with an underlying tone that if you don’t act right away you will miss out. There’s some truth to this as it seems retailers start promoting earlier and earlier every year prompting us to act sooner, and many items will sell out. Yet interestingly you always manage! Holiday lights and decorating may not get done as quickly as desires, with boxes cluttering tables and hallway floors. This chaos and clutter affects everyone differently.
Yes, you want your home tidy and welcoming. But does it really matter if you are in the middle of something when someone stops by? Is it not more important to welcome the person and spend time with them, rather than worrying about what they will think?
Practicing present moment awareness requires accepting the moment. In that fleeting moment of stillness you can breathe and feel your body relax. A silence, similar to a fresh snow fall, rises from within and you listen with an open heart and open mind.
If you find yourself overwhelmed, stop, close your eyes, breathe deeply and let the rhythm of your breath. Your mind will always outdistance your body which is always in the present moment.
Create time daily to meditate, so you experience every moment thereafter with inner peace and calm.
