How to deal with difficult emotions during the holidays

The holidays are meant to be joyful and exciting, but for many people they bring up difficult, often unexpected emotions.  Feeling sorry for yourself only perpetuates feeling worse.

There is hope for everyone to feel they belong and are loved.  If you are reading this you are more than half way to freeing yourself from suffering.

How to offset difficult emotions during the holidays.

If you feel lonely, remember a time you felt loved, then give yourself a hug and reach out to another. Pick up the phone and call someone you haven’t talked to in a while.  Tell them you miss their voice and wanted to say hello.   Tell the truth.

If you feel unappreciated, reflect on your intention and practice non-judgement.  Don’t be so hard on yourself –  you didn’t realize you had attachments until now, and you are doing the best you can…always.  Please do not judge yourself or others.  Speak kindly to yourself. Tell the truth.

If you feel angry, practice forgiveness towards yourself, and others.  Use your anger as a catalyst to understanding your needs have not been met.  Tell yourself the truth.

If you feel guilty, release expectations to meet the approval of others.  Guilt has a way of making you feel like you have done something wrong. Tell the truth – whose agenda is it anyway…you’re a peaceful spirit in a human body.

Today is the beginning of tomorrow – change your future today.

May your Christmas and holidays be filled with light, laughter and love.  Regina
