As the New Year begins it is the ideal time to create new beginnings. This is the time when we review the year gone by, setting goals and resolutions for the New Year. When students at a drop in meditation were asked what comes to mind with new beginnings, they shared letting go, acceptance, a blank canvas, and hitting a refresh button. These responses indicate we are very wise.
New Beginnings manifest with awareness, letting go and creating something new.
Before we begin something new, we must be able to let go of something old. If we never let go of anything we become stagnant and full, depressed. Just think of your closet filling up with new clothes and shoes, and never getting rid of the old. Eventually you wouldn’t be able to get anything else into your closet.
Our personal space is exactly the same as a closet. It contains the information (energy) from our life lessons, and if we don’t cleanse or toss out the old outworn, we become weighted down and stagnant. Fear is the biggest reason we struggle to let go. Our ego creates a false sense of stability by hanging on, until one day we wake up. We realize something needs to change within ourselves. We become aware and realize our thoughts and emotions can be changed and managed with awareness, letting go, and change.
Mahatma Gandhi – “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”
Awareness is recognizing and acknowledging truth as a peaceful spirit in a human body. We become aware of a thought or feeling and notice how we experience it and are then affected by it. A large number of our thoughts are judgmental or critical, either towards ourselves or others.
When we are committed, not just interested, in creating a new beginning, we open ourselves to being aware of judgmental thoughts as they arise. We do not judge them or ourselves. Rather we throw them out (they’re old), and replace them with something new that is affirming, supportive and loving.
Steps to Manifesting New Beginnings
- Be with your awareness – Truth.
- Ask yourself what you want for yourself – Self reflect.
- Let go of the judgmental thoughts, emotions, and memories – Release.
- Change/replace thoughts – Affirmations.
- See yourself being the new beginning – Visualize.
- Repeat the steps as needed throughout the day – Repeat.
Start with morning affirmations. As you rise from bed and get ready for the day, you will have many thoughts that can be changed to better reflect the brilliant light and spirit you are. For example “today is a beautiful day, and I both receive and bring to it light, laughter and love ”.
