Insights: How Letting Go Works

What is it that makes it so hard to let go?

If it were easy to let go you would have done it a long time ago. In reality, we have a bunch of feelings that are connected to a past memory. Those emotions are a window to your soul. They connect you with something that matters to you even today. That something may not have been processed fully or acknowledged, and is aching to be revealed.

Even if you’ve tried to ‘let it go’, you’re still carrying it because there is more to the story…

The unfinished business and hurt from our past experiences causes suffering in the present moment. It can catch us off guard when we are triggered by the action of someone else that has nothing to do with the way we feel. Often it doesn’t make sense that we are having such a strong reaction.

It is only when we stop long enough to listen to our souls desire that we can hear what we need to feel to heal.

So, let’s get to the letting go process. In order to create something new, we must be able to let go of something old. It doesn’t have to be a huge life altering step, but it can have that kind of effect. Try to see yourself free from the past. Consider how what you would feel without any attachments to the past. Imagine if your feelings and needs were heard. It is when we are connected to our personal needs that we take responsibility for our lives and start letting go of the story. You will experience a range of emotions when you let go including sadness and joy. Letting go is a process…..

This coming Monday we honour Remembrance Day.  We remember by pausing in silence to pay our respects. Any feelings that arise are feelings in the current moment. We have the right to feel, to let go, and to move on. But we will always remember…..
