Spirituality & Depression

Depression, anxiety and stress are ways your soul communicates with you about the energy in your inner self.  Anxiety and stress are most commonly brought on by external pressures that your soul is struggling to manage.  Personal boundaries are pushed further than is comfortable so your energy starts to feel tight and restricted, and coping becomes difficult.   Spiritually, your soul is letting you know something needs to change.  You think changing something external like your wardrobe or how your loved ones should act differently will help. Unfortunately, this change will be short lived because you have focused on the external more than the internal.  This is because you true change begins within.

Spirituality is the way we relate to our entire self, as spirit, mind, body and soul. Each of us has a soul, a personality that is made up of information relating to our past and present. This information is energy flowing through our physical self as thoughts and feelings. Some of these energies cause stress, anxiety and/or depression.

Depression is different from anxiety and stress, but they can be connected.  When we consider a depressed soul we think of someone who is weighted down, apathetic, with a lack of interest to do anything. Depression can arise because you are grieving, your deepest needs are not being met, or you may be taking in excessive energies from outside yourself.   Just like anxiety and stress, there are different levels of depression. Finding your way through a depressing period can be one of the hardest experiences you will ever have. Your energy is flat and low.  It takes all you can muster to get the basics done.  Having a job to do, or someone to take care of thankfully becomes a reason to get up.  You forge onward because you do not want to collapse into the abyss of darkness.  You are afraid you will not survive.  And  you start to believe  no one notices or cares.  You feel alone.  It may be time to get help from a medical healer for some physical relief so you can do your personal work.  The worst thing you can do is lock yourself away from the rest of the world.

The journey through depression is a passage your soul must experience to evolve. As you let go of the parts of your soul that are no longer needed for your own evolution and liberation your ego hangs on even tighter.  Confusion, fear and doubt arise as you are asked to surrender and trust this process that does not feel like rainbows and unicorns.  It is a journey that leaves you feeling helpless and alone.

However, you are not alone.  No matter what you are going through there is someone that looks forward to seeing you, and hearing from you.  Please do not isolate yourself.   Get up, get dressed, get going, and get your energy moving.  Remember YOU MATTER.  Talk about what you’re feeling and if the people you are sharing with don’t respond with love and respond find people who will. There will always be another soul you can touch with your authenticity.
