Compassionate Relationships & Fourth Chakra Awareness

by Regina Kaiser

February is the month we celebrate Valentine’s Day, relationships and the fourth chakra.  If you are new to chakra talk, chakras are energy centres (non-physical) that represent spiritual, emotional, intellectual and physical well-being. The fourth chakra is located in the centre of the chest and is also known as the heart centre. It is here, in the heart centre that we relate to ourselves and others.  Our heart might flutter in anticipation, or feel tight and closed with anxiety.  It might feel heavy when we experience loss, or for no known reason.

What do we do with these sensations or feelings in our heart centre?  Do we spend  time trying to understand why or what is causing the feeling or do we  allow ourselves the experience.

It is better to acknowledge what you are experiencing in the heart centre first to develop a sincere relationship with yourself, so you can relate with others.

THE TRUE SPIRITUAL PATH IS THE RELATIONSHIP YOU HAVE WITH YOURSELF.

Have you ever experienced the heart head syndrome?  It’s when your mind is saying one thing and your heart is saying something very different.  Wise sages and elders tell us to follow our heart.  How well do we listen to this sound advice?  Do we dismiss the sensation or feelings in our heart centre?  Do we allow ourselves to experience explosive joy or deep sorrow?  The key to creating a compassionate relationship is to listen with your heart, and use your mind to sort out the ‘how’.  The heart always speaks accurately.  Now, go see how your heart feels when you shake hands with a stranger or listen to a loved one. How can you express what you are feeling in your heart centre?  Compassionate relating begins within, by acknowledging your personal needs while connecting with the needs of others with an open heart.
