Are you putting off starting something new?
Do you find yourself saying ‘I’ll get to that later.
Are you familiar with a sense of completion?
Fear is the root cause of procrastinating! Fear is why you don’t start something new, or put off a brilliant idea until later. Later rarely, if ever arrives, leaving you eventually looking back at your life wondering what would have happened if….
Fear about making the wrong decision is the number one reason people don’t act. This doesn’t mean you should act irrationally, making decisions without thinking things through. But by identifying fear as the underlying reason you are hesitating is the beginning of changing your thought process, personality and soul.
Acknowledging you are experiencing fear and choosing to act through the fear changes your future. You can ask yourself:
- Am I giving fear too much credit?”
- What do I truly need to feel and do to clear this fear?
Fear is learned through life experiences, and you learn to stay safe through fear. You may have learned to fear being hit by a car if crossing the street recklessly, or you’ll be burned when touching a fire. You witness horrendous, fearful events through news, movies and media. You learn through these observations and experiences, and decide you wouldn’t want something awful to happen to you. These experiences linger through thought processes and on a soul level. That tightness you feel in your chest or stomach is fear or anxiety that you have learned. It is easily misunderstood as “I shouldn’t do this” when it is actually triggering a past memory in your heart centre, a fear or anxiety you are trying to heal.
The good news is that because fear is learned it can be unlearned. Rather than procrastinate, delay or put off taking an action, you can confront your fear, and take action. By taking a step into the direction that frightens you, such as public speaking, telling someone something difficult, asking someone out, or taking a business risk, you transform the fear.
- You act with awareness, trust and love, knowing you are experiencing the experience of fear as spirit first, the witness.
- You use positive, encouraging self talk with deep breathing to calm the mind and body.
- You may share your fears with someone you trust.
- You remind yourself that everyone experiences fear in different forms in different areas of their life.
- You act through your fear and experience a feeling of satisfaction and relief afterwards.
Give yourself a check mark every time you complete something.
The time is now – when you change your world changes – choose love, not fear.
