Is Surrendering Giving Up?
Surrender can have a negative association. It can make you think you are giving up or are a failure. No one wants to be a failure. This is why surrendering feels like you end up on the couch, listless and passive. It may feel like something has destroyed your spirit, your soul. But this is not surrender. Surrendering is not giving up!
To surrender is to accept what you cannot control and what you can control. Surrender is especially humbling, transcending the ego’s need to be heard, fight or push back.
It is also instinctual to stand up for your rights, to protect. However, when basic survival and freedom are threatened fear appears. Fear shuts down your energy and limits your potentiality. Surrendering is not fear based.
To Surrender is to stop fighting.
Surrendering as spirit first is made through love and compassion. Finding your way to making peace comes within through acceptance and surrender. What does Acceptance Mean?
Once you let go of whatever you’re holding onto, you see more clearly, and objectively. A peacefulness washes through you and you begin to see your life in a whole new way. Most of all, you begin to feel calmer and happier. The Joy of Letting Go
Getting through difficult times brings me back to core values and the importance of honouring self as a peaceful spirit in a human body. Questions I ask myself include:
- From where am I making this decision?
- Am I afraid of losing control?
- Is there a need to be right, for someone to be wrong?
- Who is witnessing this unfolding?
These bring me back to the moment, and richness of life. Whatever is unfolding in your life today brings you back to your choices. Clear the fear. Return to the loving light within.
As we enter the fourth wave of covid this fall, it is ever more important to practice patience and trust. As hard as it is and as much as you want to be free of this virus and all the limitations it has brought, getting angry and defiant will only limit your happiness.
Return to your loving, happy self. Nurture yourself as a peaceful spirit in a human body…. ~ Regina Kaiser
“The moment of surrender is not when life is over, it’s when it begins.” Marianne Williamson
