Happy New Year!
As we enter the New Year we reflect on the year gone by, on the people who touched our lives, and the goals we set last New Year’s. Goals can be beneficial for those who respond to deadlines, but those deadlines highlight only the external achievement if we do not spend time on self-reflection and healing. A goal always highlights the intention within the achievement whether it was a success or failure (an ego judgement). Spirit defines intention. Our ego, cannot control intention through fear, expectation or attachment. Our spiritual intention is always in support of our highest evolutionary development, and will highlight what we need to learn about ourselves. We simply need to create the space to listen and heal.
The big question to ask yourself is “am I happier now that I have fulfilled this goal, or do I still feel unfulfilled and unhappy?” If you feel aligned and fulfilled, you were already happy before you achieved the goal. If you remain unhappy and unfulfilled, then the goal is highlighting you are focusing on the external and have missed an important spiritual lesson. It is time to nurture spirit first (intention) through self-reflection.
We need boundaries and goals to keep us on track, to align with earth time, and to maintain systems and routines. Those boundaries include personal time, to refresh the soul and balance life. When we do not honour and nurture spirit first, we still learn, but it usually takes longer and includes effort.
Here is an example of what many of us do. We set a new year schedule to take care of our bodies by eating better, exercising, meditating, and setting aside time for family, friends, etc. We might say to ourselves, ‘this year I am going to focus more on me, (family, friends, or whatever your focus may be)’.
But before you get too set on achieving these goals, you can accomplish more with easy when you refresh your inner landscape through meditation and self-reflection, where you nurture spirit and intention first. The rest of your day and life will unfold with grace, and renewed balance.
Nurture spirit first, meditate, and your life will unfold with renewed balance.
