Staying Calm to Carry on

When your inner landscape is calm then you tend to enjoy and respond to life with greater joy. In an ideal world you would be in a state of calm all the time, no matter what. In reality though, every now and again everyone feels frustrated or irritated. Managing your emotions becomes easier when meditating regularly where you set your inner tone to be calm and less reactive. But you can take your awareness even further and become more mindful of when you aren’t feeling calm and what the triggers might be.

2 Common Times People Lose their Calm

1. When running late and getting caught behind a slow driver or in a slow lineup.
2. Arriving home tired and those closest to them easily set them off.

It is natural to have emotional responses that don’t always feel good. It is unhealthy to push those emotions down because you believe they are negative. Every emotion has meaning and purpose for your own soul’s evolution. But it is important to manage them from a place of inner calm, where you can express mindfully without causing harm to yourself or to others.

Staying calm becomes easier when you have a meditation or spiritual practice that keeps you connected with your intention. This is because you have fueled your inner landscape, so when you are running late you become more mindful of your situation, and are able to breathe and focus in the moment. Instead of quietly seething, you breathe. Instead of lashing out you practice understanding. You allow your calm self to rise while the irritation diffuses.

Staying calm is a way of being that can manage uncomfortable feelings. Learning to align with calm to carry on can be achieved through self care, mindfulness and meditation.
