“Patience is not passive, on the contrary, it is concentrated strength.” Bruce Lee
We are at a time in our lives where can develop our patience and tolerance so that we live together in harmony. With our corona virus prevention we have been asked to stay home, and stay safe. Many of you are uncertain about the future causing anxiety and stress. You either have a house full of people and no privacy or you are alone. The worst part is feeling you did not have a choice in all of this. And that is where you can begin to cultivate tolerance and patience.
Your perspective changes your experience. Stuff happens. The life you are living is changing and you may feel you are losing control. This causes you to feel anxious and fearful. What you are used to has changed and you are actually experiencing loss. But you are likely still caught in anxiety and fear which lead to impatience. And that’s okay…
You can be less stressful and anxious cultivating patience and trust. This is an ongoing process that asks you to be mindful and present, taking conscious steps to creating more acceptance and ease in your life. Easier said than done for some, but everyone of us can learn to be more patient and tolerant. Here are some things to ask yourself:
- When am I feeling impatient?
- Where in my body do I feel tight and restrained?
- How am I dealing with this feeling?
- What is this feeling all about?
With each of these questions you realize something about yourself. You begin to grow more patient with yourself first. If you are feeling impatient with your husband/wife, children, then you know you are the one who is frustrated. When you stop long enough you might feel your stomach and throat are tight and you’re frowning. You may be dealing with this by lashing out. But it doesn’t have to continue this way.
You can discover a world of self-empowerment. You can focus on what you can do to cultivate patience and tolerance. You breathe through the discomfort. You apologize when appropriate and you set your intention to practice mindful kindness in the future.
We are all in this together, finding our way through confusion, fear and uncertainty. Those were already there. They are simply compacted and highlighted for us to transform with light, laughter and love.
