Consciousness, Unconsciousness & Subconsciousness

As humans we think, feel, and understand.  The human system becomes clearer when we have an understanding of the conscious, subconscious, and unconscious.

Consciousness is pure awareness, where experience and knowing become wisdom.

At the core of our being we are all connected as spirit.  We are one spirit having independent, unique human experiences, where information is stored in our energy system and in the mind as consciousness, subconsciousness and unconsciousness.

The conscious mind is where we think, perceive and store current information.  You are using your conscious mind to read this article. Limitations to the subconscious and unconscious are created when we focus too much of our attention on thinking, and aren’t tuning into the subconscious and unconscious. Too much intellectual processing can make your head spin.  We can say you’re stuck in your mind, your head, and you’re seeking stillness, peace of mind.

The subconscious mind contains the information you have accumulated through your life experiences.  It’s like a blueprint of you, and you’re identity, the beliefs and values you use to determine the type of person you are and how you see yourself in the world.  Your subconscious mind creates filters based on experiences from your past that affect your current reality.  These are often interpreted as good or bad.

Your subconscious also highlights the unresolved within you.  For example,   as a child your ice cream fell out of the cone you were enjoying,  a dog came along and ate it, leaving you upset and saddened.  Now, let’s say your sadness was not acknowledged, and you were scolded for not being careful.  Parts of this experience may have been suppressed as you currently experience a dislike for dogs, not realizing it is repressed sadness you trying to process.  Or perhaps you heard ‘you’re not doing it right’ so often growing up that when someone compliments you on doing a great job, you ignore or dismiss this compliment because the dominant filter is you are not doing it right.

When you become aware of this subconscious message you are working with the conscious mind and you now have an opportunity to make a conscious choice in how you wish to feel and act, now and from this moment forward.  You could intellectualize the experience and get stuck in your head, but if you do, you will not have brought the whole experience into consciousness because you have limited it to your mind.  Simply understanding your thoughts by identifying them will not change your life.  What you do with your thoughts and feelings, the experience changes your life.

Living consciousness means acting on what you see, feel, and know.
Unconsciousness is the part of self that functions without direction from your conscious mind.  Your heart beats without you telling it to beat.  The unconsciousness mind is automatic, fueled by a higher intelligence.   Transcending the conscious and subconscious mind in meditations allows us to tune into the unconscious, the field of pure potentiality, where we can reprogram the information.  This act creates new experiences and filters for our subconscious and conscious mind.
