New Year resolutions are just another way of setting an intention. We make a ‘promise’ to change something about ourselves. We start off focused and clear, and with each passing day the reasons why we can’t commit to our intentions take over. Before we know it a few days turn into weeks and months.
In my recent blog post I posted 10 reasons not to meditate. Why, you might ask, would anyone write something negative? Doesn’t that just mean you’ll call more negativity into your life?
Well, the 10 reasons are only negative if you see them as negative. The entire concept of meditating is to witness and experience life objectively. When we have healed the judgments we perceive as negativity are no longer negative. Instead they are words. The words carry meaning that are subjective to each and every one of us and may trigger something in us. If we are triggered, it is because the negativity within us has been awakened and spirit is calling our attention to an imbalance within our energy system. Spirit defines our intention at the core of our being. From our core we consciously or unconsciously draw into our lives exactly what we need to heal.
Meditating allows us to shift that uncomfortable (trigger) energy into a calm, tranquil flow of energy. A meditation teacher offering a guided meditation class provides the structure we need to stay focused and not give up so easily.
