The Power of Detachment
Insights July 2025 by Regina Kaiser
Detachment is the practice of letting go of control, clinging, or over-identification, while staying open, aware, and connected.
Detachment is observing without becoming entangled, while letting experiences come and go without grasping or resisting. It means making space between you and the things you don’t control, including thoughts, emotions, or other people’s choices.
Detachment is not to be confused with avoidance, indifference or emotional numbness.
How do you learn to be detached but present and connected?
You begin with your root and crown chakras. Your root chakra is your foundation of trust and your crown chakra is your foundation of understanding and knowing. Having both well-established allows you the full experience of being spiritually senior in your human experience.
To be spiritually senior is to experience every moment as spirit first, also known as the witness. Slipping from spiritual seniority into body seniority is common and part of the journey. When you are body senior, life feels hard or difficult. You are experiencing your reality through the frequency of your physical and emotional bodies, also known as your pain body, rather than as spirit first. This happens because you have an attachment of some sort to something. The remedy is detachment.
Mastering Detachment
To master detachment is to have complete trust in the universe and a grounded awareness to respond accordingly to life. When you have attachments, you smother the creative process. To manifest with detachment requires a strong meditation practice that integrates body, mind, emotions and spirit. You have a deep-seated willingness to understand the creative process and life.
To detach is to surrender the need to control an outcome. You may ask yourself “how can I focus on an intention or goal without an attachment”. Maybe you’ve learned to focus on the desired outcome and never see it any other way. You are trying to be positive in nature, but you don’t realize you are holding on too tight and smothering. Fortunately, it is possible to focus your intention on what you want, simultaneously surrendering total trust to the universe. It is an art to master detachment because you find yourself drawn back into a pattern of trying to control an outcome, again creating through fear and doubt versus love and trust.
Opening Yourself to Trust
When you are open to your inner wisdom and the wisdom of the universe, you surrender another layer of attachment. It is a selfless journey of self-awareness that is connected to the entire universe.
If you are seeking to transform attachment into detachment with grounded focus and trust, then both the root and crown chakras must be flowing, balanced and aligned. All the other chakras in between respond to this level of trust and knowing.
As you journey onwards invite the affirmation “I trust in the wisdom of the universe”. Simply repeat it often. Be willing to receive what the universe is bringing into your life. There is magic in every moment and understanding will come when you trust.
