The Gift of Love – Dec. 2012

The gift of love is an indefinable presence.  It is unconditional within us. We relate to the experience of love through our emotions as a sense of inner peace and calm.  Love is always present.

Christmas is a time of giving and receiving, of celebrating with family and friends.  It is a time of togetherness and excitement, especially for children, or the child within.   We listen to Christmas music, watch holiday movies, bake, shop, decorate, celebrate, eat, drink, give and receive.  We enjoy exchanging thoughtfully selected gifts.    Did you know it is usually easier to give than to receive?

Giving and receiving is an act of love that must be balanced equally.  If we find it easier to give than to receive then we are imbalanced.   While it may be easier to give than to receive, one of the greatest acts of love is to receive.

To receive unconditionally means we can accept with an open heart what we have been given.  We do not feel obligated to say thank you, or comment on the gift or compliment.  We do not allow guilt to make us feel like we need to do or say something in return.  There is no expectation to express thanks, but gratitude may be expressed through a sincere thank you.  We accept with an open heart filled with love.

This year, when you receive a gift, notice what you are feeling, and your thoughts.  Notice if you need to say thank you rather than want to say thank you. Shift the way you receive to balance the gift of love.

The gift of love is unconditional, without attachments, expectations or fears.

Let yourself receive.  Love does not require anything in return.
