As the winter months settle in, it’s natural to feel the effects of shorter days, colder weather, and less sunlight. This time of year can bring moments of stillness and reflection, but it can also leave you feeling a bit low. The good news? You can beath the winter blues and gently lift your mood and restore balance with the combined power of meditation and aromatherapy, and movement.

Winter is an opportunity to nurture your inner light. By combining meditation and aromatherapy, and moving, you can create moments of peace and joy that sustain you through the season.

Essential Oils to Brighten Your Mood

Essential oils can work wonders in creating an uplifting environment. They are natural and you can decide how much to use. Add a few drops to your diffuser or simply inhale deeply from the bottle during your meditation.  Here are three essences or blends that are perfect for beating the winter blues:

Meditation for Winter Wellness

Meditation is a wonderful way to calm the mind, reduce stress, and cultivate a sense of inner warmth. A daily practice, even for just 5–10 minutes, can help you reconnect with your breath, let go of heavy emotions, and focus on the present moment.

Try this simple practice:

  1. Turn on music that is without lyrics.  Nature or spa sounds.
  2. Sit comfortably in a quiet space.
  3. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, letting your shoulders relax.
  4. Visualize glowing light at your heart center, radiating warmth and peace. Deepen your breath.
  5. Repeat an affirmation, like “I am a peaceful spirit in a human body.”
  6. Keep breathing, repeating and relaxing.

Move your body with yoga

Movement for your Body & Soul

Take a walk, dance, move in yoga or a fitness class.  Choose one way to move, once a day for at least 10 minutes to start beating those winter blues. Your physical body benefits on so many levels when you move it, so do it and start beating those blues.
