Can Meditation Help Overcome Avoidance?
Avoidance is when we steer clear of something that causes discomfort or anxiety. It’s a short-term solution that usually leads to greater stress later on.
Meditating helps overcome avoidance through self-awareness and identifying patterns.
Sitting down to meditate can itself be avoided when you aren’t clear with why are meditating. The first step is to recognize when you are avoiding meditating. We like to see positive results from our choices. When we don’t feel we have a positive outcome then it’s much easier to avoid. If we find ourselves meditating to relax then it’s likely we won’t avoid it as much.
So why would you meditate if it doesn’t feel positive?
Meditating with awareness, that is to say, not so much for relaxation, but to connect with our intentions, creates awareness. With an emphasis on self-awareness, meditating provides a means to confront and transform avoidance patterns. This part of the journey inwards requires courage and a willingness to evolve.
Awareness is the first step towards change, as it allows you to recognize when and why you are avoiding certain aspects of your life.
Meditation offers a structured way to confront and understand the root causes of avoidance, paving the way for healing and growth. Use your meditation practice as a tool for growth and see how it helps you move beyond avoidance, towards a life of courage and authenticity. By cultivating mindfulness, compassion, and acceptance, you can confront and overcome the patterns that hold you back, leading to a more fulfilling and present life.
